About Our History
Wetmore Construction Inc. began serving the remodeling needs of San Antonio and the Texas Hill Country back in 1990. In 1995 we began installing bathtubs, showers and shower walls for builders of new homes. When the economy and the new home building business took a severe downturn in 2008, we changed our business plan and started offering bathroom remodeling expertise directly to South and Central Texas homeowners. At that time we also changed our name and since then we have done business as Safe Showers.
In 2017 at the age of 83 Bob Williams, founder of Safe Showers, began thinking about a succession plan. He eventually began talking with Chris and Joan Edelen about acquiring the company and after seeing the excellent product, workmanship and great customer service that the company provides, they decided to acquire Safe Showers. Chris has a long history in the home improvement industry and specifically in the tub to shower replacement arena. For almost 10 years Chris and his team built one of the top 5 largest remodeling companies in the US, with sales exceeding $75 million annually. Part of the company was seven franchised bathroom remodeling locations. Chris sold his ownership in 2013 and went on to work with Kohler Company. At Kohler he worked with an internal team to develop a new business unit that today is selling Kohler Walk in Tubs and Luxstone tub to shower conversions. Joan’s experience has been on the finance and administrative side of the business with positions as controller and CFO for various companies. Chris and Joan are both very committed to helping Seniors and specifically Veterans stay in their homes while living a comfortable lifestyle. They, along with their sons Christopher and Daniel, have a strong desire to give back to the community. Today the company serves the San Antonio, Austin and surrounding communities as well as the Texas Hill Country with two showroom locations.
About Our Products, Shower Walls and Solid Surface Products. Shower walls and pans are all solid surface products. Solid surface is a man made non-porous, low maintenance material composed of bauxite, acrylic polymers and alumina trihydrate. It can be transformed by heating, allowing unique shapes to be created. Its primary use is in kitchen and bath counter/vanity tops and shower walls and floors. A major appeal of solid surface is in its seamless nature eliminating areas for water to collect and requires no porous grout for bacteria to grow.
About Safe Shower Doors. Our doors are made with tempered safety glass that will never shard or shatter.
Safety Considerations. Since the greatest demand for tub-to-shower conversions come from people 50 years of age and up, safety considerations were most important in it’s design. The skid resistant shower floor makes its users feel like they are standing barefoot on their kitchen floor, and the large shower drain installed by our licensed Master Plumber results in a quick water run off so user’s don’t stand in a puddle. The scald proof valve the master plumber installs eliminates the shock of sudden changes in water temperature which can cause falling.
Before the shower is installed, the old tub and shower walls are removed right down to the wall studs. The entire area is thoroughly cleaned and any mold or mildew in the area is eliminated. Blocks of heavy wood are installed between the wall studs in preparation for the installation of safety grab bars. We then install Hardie Moisture resistant backer board that is used to attach our finished walls.
Warranties Lifetime on all materials as long as you own the home. Labor has a full one year warranty, non-pro-rated.
